We help individuals, teams and cultures grow relational practice, through training, thinking spaces and consultation.

We connect with skills and resources already within your system, and share new ideas in psychologically informed care, through creative, engaging training and education. All of this work is underpinned with regular, safe spaces for staff to pause, reflect and engage in dialogue with colleagues.

Details about each aspect of our work can be found below. Please get in touch if you would like to think about how these different components might look in your setting.

What we offer
Packages

We tailor our support to your specific needs. We offer the following pre-designed packages.

For psychological professionals:

The Compassionate Mind Approach to neonatal care

We are part of a team developing an introductory training course for neonatal psychological professionals, applying Paul Gilbert's Compassionate Mind Approach to neonatal and maternity systems. Further advanced courses are also in development.

Our training is experiential, interactive and based on the research evidence for the type of  relationships that will help you and your teams work more effectively.

If you are a non-psychological professional, we offer training to help underpin your clinical practice with connected, compassionate, collaborative relationships. If you are a psychological professional, we offer specialist training in how to integrate relational practice into your clinical work with clients, families, and teams.

Our training extends beyond teaching days and includes, wherever possible, the provision of reflective or supervision spaces over a longer period. Research has shown that training has the most impact when you have space and time to engage with these ideas, try them out, reflect on your efforts and integrate them into your practice.

We provide training in:

  • the Compassionate Mind Approach (introductory and advanced levels)

  • trauma-informed approaches to perinatal and paediatric care

  • compassionate approaches to clinical governance

  • relational communication training

  • collaborative working and supporting families

  • supporting compassionate leaders to nurture compassionate teams

  • navigating conflict in relationships between families and teams.

If you are interested in attending or commissioning training in one or more of these areas for yourself or your team, or if you have a different training need you would like to discuss, please do get in touch.

Psychologist from The Relational Practice offering consultation

Compassion, collaboration, dialogue and mutual understanding are more within our reach when we have headspace and time to think and reflect. When we spend this time with other minds to help us think, it helps even more.

We offer supervision and facilitated reflective spaces to all professional groups to:

  • Build on and embed newly learned ideas and skills

  • Replenish and refresh

  • Explore dilemmas

  • Keep yourself on track

Our supervision and reflective spaces are for both individuals and groups, and can be ongoing or time limited. We offer professional supervision for clinical psychologists, particularly those working in neonatal, paediatric or perinatal settings.

We also run longer one-off workshops providing experiential opportunities to reflect on particular themes, including:

  • The impact of your work on you, and of you on your work

  • “What is it like to be on the receiving end of me?”

If you or your team would like to access supervision or a reflective space, please get in touch to discuss your needs.

Feedback for our supervision and reflective spaces

"This session is always extremely valuable."

"These sessions have been a safe space for colleagues in my immediate team to get to know me better and how I respond to different situations. This has been incredibly helpful in building trusting supportive professional relationships; this in turn has led to team benefit."

"I have really valued this reflective group as it has been the calm in the storm. Thank you for facilitating a safe and supportive space, whilst encouraging us to grow. I really appreciate your input, wisdom and calmness, which have created many opportunities for us to feel held."

"I feel these opportunities have enabled our team to grow in ability, due to a foundation of trust and reliability between key people who attend these sessions."

Sometimes your team or group need something that is more bespoke and focused than training and reflective spaces.

It might be that you have a dilemma that, as a team, you need support in resolving; aspects of your workplace culture that feel unworkable; or particular patterns of interaction that are getting in the way of the compassionate, relational approach you would like to be taking.

We consult with teams (managers, leaders, and front line staff) to understand strengths and stuck points and identify ways to reestablish connection, dialogue and mutual understanding. We facilitate human learning systems, understanding services as communities who are co-creating a collaborative vision of support alongside families.

If you think your team might benefit from thinking with us about ways forward, please do get in touch.

Feedback for our consultancy

"Thank you for all your input, guidance and support. I don’t think mental health and trauma awareness among staff for each other, and for babies and families, has ever been so high. And that is so very much down to you and your vision and hard work."

"Thank you for teaching me so much in a short space of time – you have had a hugely positive influence on my clinical practice."

"A big thank you for what you have done and most importantly know that your impact has changed me more than I think you can ever realise."

"As a leader I have found the sessions useful as it has helped me to understand how my team are thinking and feeling, which has enabled me to provide further support. It has also supported our team's relationship as we all reflect on how we deal with certain situations, which has enabled us to develop a deeper empathy for each other."
