Welcome to The Relational Practice
The Relational Practice is a team of experienced consultant psychologists providing training, consultation, and reflective supervision across health and social care settings. We are recognised for our work in supporting compassionate connection between staff teams and the families they care for.
Here at The Relational Practice, we create spaces where people can slow down, build connection and open up to new ways of understanding themselves and each other.
Relationships with these foundations are central to improving the quality and safety of care across maternity, neonatal, perinatal and paediatric systems. In this way we can transform longer term outcomes for people and organisations.
Please take a look around our website to explore how we can support healthy, caring relationships in your setting.

Relationships are at the core of who we are.
Connected, compassionate, collaborative relationships bring meaning and purpose to our lives and allow us to get stuff done. This becomes even more important when family-life meets health and social care. Trauma can make it harder for us to nurture these relationships, and also makes it more important that we do.

Relational practice is about helping people feel safe, connected and understood, allowing them to do their best, most creative thinking and provide the highest quality care. It is about how these kind of relationships can help us mitigate, navigate, and heal from trauma. This is how we will improve the experiences and outcomes of babies, children and families.

We offer training, supervision and consultancy across all levels of the health and social care system. With families, staff teams, leaders and the psychological professionals who support them. In these ways we promote relational practice across maternity, neonatal, perinatal and paediatric care, and all systems working with families in their early years.
Relationships matter. It is in our relationships with ourselves, others and the systems around us, that the seeds of meaningful change can be sown and nurtured.

We are experienced Clinical Psychologists with a passion for supporting individuals, families, professionals and organisations.
Between us we have three decades of experience working in the NHS and have led psychological services in neonatal, perinatal and paediatric care. In recent years, we have been leading the development of psychological support in neonatal care across England.

Our purpose with The Relational Practice is to facilitate change across maternity, neonatal, perinatal and paediatric care by promoting safeness, connection, dialogue, and mutual understanding.

The Relational Practice is a collaboration between Ruth Butterworth and Davy Evans.
